Who is a Good Candidate?

The Sapphire Roots Procedure — Step by Step
- Consultation & Planning: Dr. Ashwini assesses your hair loss stage (Norwood/Ludwig), donor density, hair characteristics, and goals. A personalised plan is developed including technique selection, estimated graft count, hairline design, and cost estimate.
- Pre-procedure preparation: Blood tests, pre-operative medications (to reduce bleeding/swelling), and scalp preparation. The donor area is trimmed to the required length.
- Anaesthesia: Local anaesthesia is administered to both the donor and recipient areas. The procedure is performed entirely under local anaesthesia — patients are awake, comfortable, and can watch movies or listen to music throughout.
- Donor harvesting (FUE): Using a precision micro-punch (0.7–0.9mm diameter), individual follicular unit grafts are extracted one by one from the donor zone. Each graft is examined under magnification and stored in a specialised holding solution to maintain viability.
- Channel creation (Sapphire FUE) or simultaneous implantation (DHI): With Sapphire FUE, micro-channels are created using sapphire blades at precisely controlled angles, depths, and directions to ensure natural hair growth patterns. With DHI, this step is bypassed — grafts are loaded directly into the CHOI pen for simultaneous implantation.
- Graft implantation: Grafts are carefully placed into each channel, respecting the natural hair direction and density distribution. Single-hair grafts are placed at the hairline for a soft, natural edge. Multi-hair grafts provide density in the mid-scalp and crown.
- Post-procedure care: The recipient area is left uncovered and the donor area is lightly dressed. Detailed home care instructions are provided. First post-operative wash is guided at the clinic 24–48 hours later.
Results Timeline
- Days 1–14: Recipient area shows small scabs/crusts around grafts. Minor swelling of the forehead may occur (days 2–4) — normal and resolves on its own.
- Week 2–4: Scabs fall off naturally. The transplanted hairs begin to shed — this is NORMAL and expected (shock loss). The follicle is alive and preparing to enter a new growth cycle.
