Hair Transplant at Sapphire Roots, Pune

Hair transplant surgery is the only permanent solution for hair loss. At Sapphire Roots in Wakad, Pune, Dr. Ashwini (MDS, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery) has performed over 1,000 successful hair restoration procedures using the most advanced, scar-free techniques available today — delivering natural, undetectable results that last a lifetime.

Unlike older strip surgery (FUT) — which leaves a permanent linear scar across the back of the scalp — all procedures at Sapphire Roots use FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) based techniques. Individual follicles are harvested one by one, leaving no linear scar, allowing short hairstyles post-surgery, and resulting in significantly faster recovery.

Our Hair Transplant Techniques

01
Sapphire FUE

The gold standard of FUE. Sapphire gemstone blades create precision micro-channels with minimal tissue trauma. Faster healing, denser packing, lower infection risk, and superior graft survival compared to standard steel FUE. Our most popular technique for comprehensive coverage.

→ Best for: complete hairline + crown restoration in men
02
DHI (Direct Hair Implantation)

The CHOI implanter pen places grafts directly without pre-made channels — maximising graft survival and enabling precise angle, depth, and direction control. Can be performed without shaving the recipient area. The preferred technique for women and density addition.

→ Best for: women, density addition, no-shave procedures
03
Bio FUE

Standard FUE enhanced with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) and growth factors applied during graft storage and at the implantation site. Produces superior graft survival rates and faster, more robust regrowth compared to conventional FUE alone.

→ Best for: maximum graft survival, faster regrowth
04
Stem Cell FUE

Our most advanced technique — FUE combined with stem cell-enriched preparations applied to the donor and recipient zones. Stem cells stimulate dormant follicles, improve scalp vascularity, and can partially activate follicles adjacent to the transplant zone that were not transplanted.

→ Best for: maximum biological stimulation, advanced cases
05
BIG FUE (Mega Session)

A single-session procedure covering 3,500–6,000+ grafts in one sitting — maximising efficiency and minimising total downtime for patients with extensive hair loss. Requires careful surgical planning and an experienced team to maintain graft quality throughout.

→ Best for: Norwood V–VII, large-area coverage in one session

Who is a Good Candidate?

Hair transplant surgery at Sapphire Roots is suitable for most adults with stable pattern hair loss. The ideal candidate has:

  • Sufficient donor supply: The back and sides of the scalp must have adequate DHT-resistant follicle density to provide enough grafts for the desired coverage. Dr. Ashwini assesses donor density carefully during consultation.
  • Stable hair loss: Hair loss should have been stable for at least 12 months (or the patient should be on medical therapy to stabilise it) before surgery is performed.
  • Realistic expectations: Understanding that transplant restores lost hair permanently, but cannot increase the total number of follicles available — density is limited by donor supply.
  • Good general health: No active scalp infections, uncontrolled diabetes, or bleeding disorders.
  • Age 25+: Generally recommended to ensure the pattern of hair loss is sufficiently established for accurate planning.
ℹ️ Women are Excellent Candidates

With DHI technique, women can undergo hair transplant without shaving the recipient area. Female hair transplant at Sapphire Roots uses the CHOI pen to add density directly within existing hair — with no visible signs of surgery during the recovery period.

The Sapphire Roots Procedure — Step by Step

  1. Consultation & Planning: Dr. Ashwini assesses your hair loss stage (Norwood/Ludwig), donor density, hair characteristics, and goals. A personalised plan is developed including technique selection, estimated graft count, hairline design, and cost estimate.
  2. Pre-procedure preparation: Blood tests, pre-operative medications (to reduce bleeding/swelling), and scalp preparation. The donor area is trimmed to the required length.
  3. Anaesthesia: Local anaesthesia is administered to both the donor and recipient areas. The procedure is performed entirely under local anaesthesia — patients are awake, comfortable, and can watch movies or listen to music throughout.
  4. Donor harvesting (FUE): Using a precision micro-punch (0.7–0.9mm diameter), individual follicular unit grafts are extracted one by one from the donor zone. Each graft is examined under magnification and stored in a specialised holding solution to maintain viability.
  5. Channel creation (Sapphire FUE) or simultaneous implantation (DHI): With Sapphire FUE, micro-channels are created using sapphire blades at precisely controlled angles, depths, and directions to ensure natural hair growth patterns. With DHI, this step is bypassed — grafts are loaded directly into the CHOI pen for simultaneous implantation.
  6. Graft implantation: Grafts are carefully placed into each channel, respecting the natural hair direction and density distribution. Single-hair grafts are placed at the hairline for a soft, natural edge. Multi-hair grafts provide density in the mid-scalp and crown.
  7. Post-procedure care: The recipient area is left uncovered and the donor area is lightly dressed. Detailed home care instructions are provided. First post-operative wash is guided at the clinic 24–48 hours later.

Results Timeline

  • Days 1–14: Recipient area shows small scabs/crusts around grafts. Minor swelling of the forehead may occur (days 2–4) — normal and resolves on its own.
  • Week 2–4: Scabs fall off naturally. The transplanted hairs begin to shed — this is NORMAL and expected (shock loss). The follicle is alive and preparing to enter a new growth cycle.
  • Month 1–3: Most transplanted hairs have shed and the scalp may look similar to before surgery. This is the most psychologically challenging period — the follicles are resting underground, preparing to grow.
  • Month 3–6: New hair begins to emerge from transplanted follicles. Growth is initially fine and soft, gradually thickening. Progress is visible and exciting.
  • Month 6–9: Significant coverage visible. Hair is thickening and lengthening. Most patients see 60–70% of final result at this stage.
  • Month 9–12: Final results approaching. Hair texture normalises. The full density and coverage of the transplant becomes clear.
  • Month 12–18: Complete maturation of transplanted hair. Final assessment and any touch-up planning if desired.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is hair transplant painful?
+
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. The only discomfort is the initial anaesthetic injections — which are brief. Once anaesthesia takes effect, patients feel no pain during the procedure. Some mild soreness in the donor area may be felt for 2–3 days afterward, easily managed with mild pain relief.
How long does the procedure take?
+
Procedure duration depends on graft count. Smaller sessions (1,500–2,500 grafts) typically take 6–8 hours; larger sessions (3,000–5,000 grafts) may take 8–10 hours. The procedure is completed in a single day. Patients have breaks and can eat, drink, and use their phones throughout.
When can I return to work?
+
Most patients working desk jobs or from home can return to work within 5–7 days. Those in physical jobs, or who require a professional appearance without any visible signs of procedure, typically take 10–14 days off. At Sapphire Roots, Dr. Ashwini provides personalised guidance on return-to-activity timelines.
Are the results permanent?
+
Yes. Transplanted follicles are harvested from the DHT-resistant donor zone and retain that resistance in their new location. They continue producing hair naturally for life — just as they would have in their original location. However, medical therapy (finasteride/minoxidil) is recommended alongside transplant to preserve existing native hair in progressive areas.
Will my transplanted hair look natural?
+
In experienced hands, absolutely. Dr. Ashwini pays meticulous attention to hairline design, graft angle, direction, and density distribution — all of which determine the naturalness of the result. Single-hair grafts at the hairline create an imperceptibly soft, natural edge. Patients regularly report that friends and family cannot detect they have had a transplant.
